History of Online Gambling
The history of online gambling begins in 1994, two years prior to the arrival of the first online casino. "The Free Trade and Processing Zone Act" was passed in 1994 in Antigua-Barbuda, granting the online operators licenses to open online casinos. Gambling has been around for thousands of years so it is only fitting that this day in age, it would now be on the internet.
Before any casinos opened online, the software was begun first with Microgaming, started in 1994. Then came Cryptologic which made internet transactions safe and feasible, from Cryptologic came the first casino online, Intercasino. In 1997, Boss Casino Media Systems then transferred to Boss Media AB game server system located in Antigua-Barbuda. In 1998, Microgaming released the first progressive jackpot slot and Boss Media signed its first license agreement with a customer.
From 1999 until now, the whole of internet gambling has flourished into a very lucrative business with millions of online gamblers and an estimated $200 million plus per year in the business. There are many outside of the business that, for numerous reasons, feel that online gambling should be banned and made illegal though their reasoning is questionable by most logically thinking people.
